Feline FAQS - Feline Obesity
Q: My cat is always asking for food and he's getting fat. What can I do?
A: Obesity is a real problem in cats and it can lead to many serious medical conditions. You have to understand that it is perfectly acceptable to say "NO" when your cat is approaching you for food. Your veterinary practice will probably have a weight clinic and they will give you advice on diet to help your cat get slim again. However, just like us, diet needs to be combined with exercise to get cats to lose weight. The next time your cat comes to you asking for food why don't you play a game instead? It could be your cat is over-eating because he is bored so try to think of other activities and games that your cat can enjoy throughout the day.
